RCARA Internet Radio Linking Project (IRLP) Information
|
The aim of this project is to reliably and inexpensively link amateur radio systems without the use of RF links, leased lines, or satellites. The IRLP uses Voice-Over-IP (VoIP) custom software and hardware. Coupled with the power of the Internet, IRLP will link your repeater site or simplex station to the world in a simple and cost effective way. IRLP operates a worldwide network of dedicated servers and nodes offering very stable worldwide voice communications between hundreds of towns and cities. All this with unsurpassed uptimes and the full dynamic range of telephone quality audio. |
In the Riverside area, Chris Maness, KQ6UP, has established an IRLP Node which is available to RCARA Members, along with the General Amateur Radio population. This RCARA IRLP Node is temporarily located at KQ6UP's QTH in Grand Terrace and will not be accessible to everyone due to topography and distance.
Access to Chris's IRLP is very simple. Set your 2 Meter Band radio to 145.770 MHz Simplex with a PL of 146.2 Hz. Dial the node or reflector number you are trying to connect to on DTMF and 73's to disconnect. For further information on the IRLP System, including Node Information, go to http://www.irlp.net/ .
Please note that since this is a simplex node commands cannot be issued while it is transmitting. Also, we are probably going to need to get a fan on the radio and the PS as they get pretty hot with 100% duty cycle use like the shuttle audio or connecting to a busy reflector.
It is on 24/7.
